Example call to Brookside Dental Careabout 1 min
Hi, you've reached Brookside Dental Care. I'm the practice's AI assistant, and this call is recorded. How can I help?
I've had toothache since Sunday and my cheek's a bit puffy.
I'm sorry to hear that. Is the swelling spreading towards your eye, or making it hard to swallow or breathe?
No, it's just a bit swollen. The pain's about a seven.
Thank you. Are you an existing patient, and is that NHS or private?
Existing, NHS. Gary Okafor.
Thanks Gary. I've marked this as urgent for the team, and they'll call you back this morning. If the swelling spreads or you struggle to swallow, call 999. If we're closed, ring NHS 111.

The problem

Dental phones peak at opening time and lunchtime. Patients in pain don't leave voicemails, they ring the next practice.

Red flags first, every time

Swelling near the eye or throat, trouble breathing or swallowing, bleeding that won't stop: callers are told to ring 999 or go to A&E, and out of hours to call NHS 111. Nobody is told to wait for a call back.

The details reception needs

New or existing, NHS or private, pain level and preferred time, in one text and in the app. No clinical advice, ever.

Recall and hygienist reminders Switching on in pilot

Set a recall interval and Hello Anytime texts patients when they're due, in your practice name.

What Hello Anytime asks your callers

The questions you'd ask, every time.

You can change these in the app. Hello Anytime asks them naturally and never makes up an answer. Other languages are being tested in the pilot.

  • New or existing patient, NHS or private
  • What it's for: check-up, hygienist, pain, broken tooth, lost crown
  • Pain out of 10, and any swelling (spreading to the eye or throat means 999)
  • Patient's name, and the child's name if a parent is calling
  • Days and times that suit
After the call

Get paid, and get the next job.

One tap on any job sends the right text in your business name. Replies come straight to you, and anyone can reply STOP. "On my way" and "ready" texts are live; scheduled reminders and quote chasing are switching on during the pilot.

Questions from dental businesses

Straight answers.

More in the main FAQ, or ask the chat.

Does it replace our reception team?

No. It answers the calls your team can't get to, like the 8am rush, lunchtime and after hours, and passes each one on. Your team stays in charge of the diary.

Can it tell patients if we have NHS spaces?

Only if you write it in your notes. If NHS availability changes, update one line in the app and Hello Anytime says the new answer. It never guesses.

What does it say to a patient in severe pain at night?

It tells them to ring NHS 111 for the urgent dental service, or 999 for swelling affecting breathing, swallowing or the eye, and flags the call for your team in the morning.

Does it work with our practice software?

Not directly yet. Appointment requests go into the Hello Anytime diary and your team books them in your own system. Links to dental software are something pilot practices can help us choose.

Do I keep my number?

Yes. Customers keep ringing your usual number. You forward only the calls you miss to a Hello Anytime number we give you, which your customers never need to know.

When does Hello Anytime answer?

Your phone rings first. If you don't pick up within about 20 seconds, the call goes to Hello Anytime. On a mobile the divert code is **61*your Hello Anytime number**20#, and you can change the 20 to 5, 10, 15, 25 or 30 seconds. You can also send every call straight to Hello Anytime, for example at night, and switch it back with a short code.

What about a landline?

Mobiles use one short code. Landlines divert differently depending on your provider, and some (like BT) may charge for it. We'll help you set it up.
